Teaching Application Away!

Today I sent my official teaching application to the Personnel Office of the Bering Strait School District. Even though I was long overdue to send it in, I guess that little hesitation is the last butterfly to leave my stomach after being hired for the job at the Washington Educator's Career Fair. I still remember the moment when I asked Jim the personnel director for the BSSD, "Are you sure you don't want me to think about this for a few days?"

His reply, "The first thing you have to do is learn how to trust me," made the world slow down, like I was watching myself in a movie. A thousand thoughts rushed through my head and I knew that this opportunity was an adventure I couldn't pass up. I answered him with the coolest one-liner I could think of.

"Okay, let's do this."

Now that seems like forever ago, and I have been substituting almost daily. As I begin to pack my curriculum for teaching math and reading in the Shaktoolik school, it again dawns on me that I will leave in 2 months for this unforgettable experience.

That's a gutsy move, best of luck to you. I have no idea what that part of Alaska looks like, so I hope you will post some pictures.
